A flat top register stand provides a flat counter surface for a cash register or POS terminal to sit on. A well top register stand has a recessed well (typically 4\"D) cut into the counter surface — the register or terminal sits inside the well, keeping it at a lower, more ergonomic height and preventing it from shifting during transactions. Well top is preferred for high-transaction-volume environments.
