Can fabric steamers damage any garment types?

2 views  July 1, 2026
Steam should not be used directly on velvet (use a velvet board or steam from the reverse), structured wool (can shrink), and some embellished garments (heat-sensitive decorations). Test on a hidden area first when unsure. Steam is safe for most retail fabrics — cotton, linen, polyester, silk, blends — and is gentler than ironing because it does not apply direct pressure.
