Universal Wall Standards (W40-) use 1/2" slots on 1" centers — the most common pattern in North American retail, compatible with the widest range of brackets and accessories. Heavy Duty Wall Standards (W700-) use 1" slots on 2" centers — a heavier pattern engineered for higher merchandise loads. Accessories are NOT interchangeable between the two slot patterns. Choose Universal for general retail merchandise; choose Heavy Duty for footwear display, boxed goods, hardware, dense merchandise, or any application where bracket loads will be significant.
